DetailsJeep tour from Yerevan
The Geghama Mountains are a chain of extinct volcanoes between Garni and Lake Sevan. The highest is Azhdahak, 3,597 metres, with a small lake in its crater in summer. An ordinary car can’t get here: past the last village the track crosses lava fields and alpine meadows.
We drive up by 4×4 to Lake Akna at about 3,000 metres and walk the last couple of kilometres to the crater rim — an easy mountain walk with huge views of Aragats, Ararat and Lake Sevan.
The season runs from mid-June to September, once the snow melts. Bring good shoes and a warm jacket: even in summer it is cool and windy at the top.
