Day tour from Yerevan

Garni & Geghard

Garni temple above the Azat gorge

Overview

Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded temple in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. It was built in the 1st century AD on a cliff above the Azat gorge, whose walls are lined with basalt columns — the “Symphony of Stones”.

A little further up the valley, Geghard monastery is partly carved into the mountain itself. Its rock-cut chapels have remarkable acoustics, and the whole site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
