Day tour from Yerevan

Gyumri & around

Holy Saviour’s Church and old tuff houses of Gyumri

Overview

Gyumri is Armenia’s second-largest city, famous for its crafts, humour and the old Kumayri district — more than a thousand buildings of black and red tuff from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

On the way we stop at the 7th-century Aruchavank cathedral, one of the largest in medieval Armenia. In Gyumri we see the Black Fortress and the Mother Armenia statue, walk around Vardanants Square to the churches of the Holy Saviour and Yot Verk, and visit the Museum of National Architecture and Urban Life. On the way back we stop at Marmashen monastery on the Akhurian river.
