DetailsDay tour from Yerevan
Dilijan is a green resort town in the forests of Tavush, often called the Armenian Switzerland. Its old Sharambeyan Street, with 19th-century houses, workshops and small museums, has been carefully restored.
Around the town, medieval monasteries hide in the woods: Haghartsin, with churches of the 10th–13th centuries, and Goshavank, founded in 1188 by the scholar Mkhitar Gosh, with one of the finest khachkars in Armenia. On the way we stop at Sevanavank above Lake Sevan, and in the middle of the day at the forest Lake Parz.
Even in summer it is cooler at Sevan and in Dilijan than in Yerevan — bring a light jacket. In winter the road to Lake Parz can be closed by snow; then we skip it.
