Day tour from Yerevan

Byurakan Observatory by night

Byurakan Observatory under the night sky

Overview

The Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory was founded in 1946 by Viktor Ambartsumian, one of the best-known astrophysicists of the 20th century. It stands on the slopes of Mount Aragats, about an hour from Yerevan.

On the way we stop at Paris Herouni’s giant radio-optical telescope and the 13th-century Tegher monastery, reach the observatory at sunset and, on a clear night, look at the Moon, planets and stars through a telescope with expert commentary.
